Assistance with SB-600 flash unit

I’m in LA for a little bit, and my neighbor Nancy asked if I could help her with the Nikon SB-600 flash unit her husband bought her for Christmas. No problemo… I own several SB-800’s, quite similar to the SB-600’s. Basically it was “just add the AA batteries, slide unit on the camera’s hotshoe, and to start with, use TTL mode setting with camera in A or P mode.” I told her to be conscious of flash-subject distance… in other words, don’t be in the upper deck of a baseball stadium and try to use flash on the players hundreds of feet/yards away. Ten or twelve feet works nicely, thank you very much! Later she can try to dial up/down the strobe’s intensity, and get creative with the Nikon CLS (creative Lighting System) wireless doo-dads. Joe McNally of National Geographic fame is the master with these wireless flash setups.
